Megan seems to have flipped a switch in our daughter and sparked a desire for her to learn.
When we met Megan…, our daughter was non-verbal and made no attempt at verbal communication other than screaming – despite three years of speech therapy, which occurred two-to-three times per week. She was also becoming increasingly aggressive. Within the first month and a half of working with Megan, we experienced a lessening of the aggressive behavior because of the strategies developed by Megan.
The biggest result… is that our daughter seems to be developing language. She can make a "Daa" sound, which has her now appropriately getting Dada's (her father) attention. We have "Hi" and “Buh” sound used appropriately with a wave to signal a greeting or a goodbye. We have a "Bah" sound for her balloons, which Megan has helped our daughter further reach a "bah"- "looo”. I have even had a few "ma-ma" utterances just in time for Mother's Day.
… We have noticed in the past few days that our daughter now makes solid eye contact when she is trying to communicate. She is more attentive to the words coming out of our mouth since Megan helped our daughter assign sounds to her wants and needs. It is as if she is more aware that all these sounds have meaning and purpose. Our daughter seems genuinely interested in learning now. In the past two weeks, she has actually brought her "Word" book to me and we go through it cover to cover, which has never happened before. In the past if you tried to sit down with her and a book, she would jump around, close the book on you, grab it, and hit you with it. Now, she seems engaged and interested.
