Camp Bush Wee: A Seasonal Approach to Potty Training

Summer is the easiest season for potty training. The clothing is lighter, the lemonade is flowing, and hosing your kids off in the yard is socially acceptable. If your child is showing signs of readiness, going bottoms-free can help them tune into their body’s signals with minimal intervention. They were probably going to take their clothes off anyway.

Outdoors is best—private yards, shaded patios, anywhere they can safely entertain themselves. For families on small lots, even a little temporary fencing or a privacy screen can be enough for bush wees. Oversize tee shirts offer modesty if that's a concern but also protect the skin from sun and bugs. Indoors, this approach is messier—but doable. A tarp in front of the television can also creates a clear, low-pressure setting for children to recognize their body's cues.
